Whatever the service may be, it must be carried out with honesty and transparency. In doing so, challenges and pressures are inevitable. However, if we remain committed to honesty and transparency, we will never have to fear anyone,” said the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan
With the financial support of the late Raghunathan’s family and organized by the Rathnam Foundation, a scholarship award ceremony for students selected through interviews from among Sri Lankan university students, in collaboration with Vision Global Empowerment, was held today (Sunday, 31 August 2025) at the Provincial Information Technology and Distance Education Center in Vavuniya, under the chairmanship of Vision Global Empowerment Chairman, Mr. N. Theivendrarajah.
The Governor, who graced the event as Chief Guest, presented scholarship certificates to the students. In his address, he stated:
‘Most university graduates become book-oriented and fail to contribute meaningfully to society. Today, however, you are being supported with scholarships that cover the entirety of your studies. More importantly, you are also being provided with leadership training, which will surely bring a positive change in you. Education alone is no longer sufficient—everyone must also develop their skills. Through this program, you are receiving not only financial assistance but also a valuable platform to enhance those skills.
We must nurture compassion and the spirit of helping others. When the poor and needy approach us, we should never feel humiliated to listen to them or extend support. Unfortunately, some officials, once in the spotlight, assume superiority and neglect the very people they should serve. You, who will hold such positions in the future, must grow in the right direction. The positions entrusted to us are for service, not for status. Alongside this, each of you should cultivate a positive mindset. Remember, nothing is impossible if we try. With determination, anything can be achieved.
The event was also attended by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, Professor A. Atputharajah; Assistant Registrar, Mr. Jayakumar; and the CEO of Vision Global Empowerment, Mr. Antany Jeevarathnam Mayuran.
