A large group of teachers from Jaffna district who are currently working in the out districts met with Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N.Vethanayagan at the Governor’s Secretariat on Monday, December 23, 2024. The teachers expressed their concerns, highlighting that many of them had been working in the out districts for extended periods. They pointed out that some teachers, who had been appointed after them, had been transferred back to their home districts, raising issues of unfair treatment. The teachers explained that they had been working in difficult circumstances and felt disadvantaged compared to those who were transferred based on their influence.
In response, Hon. Governor emphasized that teachers from Jaffna District are expected to work in other areas within the Northern Province. He also clarified that teachers who have not yet served in such areas will be transferred according to the proper procedures.
Hon. Governor further stated that transfers would not be granted without valid reasons. He highlighted that when a teacher is transferred from an out district to Jaffna, a teacher from Jaffna in the same subject area would need to be transferred to the out district in return. Hon. Governor assured the teachers that these procedures would be strictly followed in the future to ensure fairness and proper administration of transfers.
