Hon. Governor Urges Trade Unions to Prioritize Public Welfare alongside Members’ Interests

Trade unions should give as much importance to the welfare of the public seeking services as they do to the welfare of their members, Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, requested.

A meeting between the Government Ayurvedic Medical Officers Association and the Governor of the Northern Province was held on Wednesday (02.07.2025) at the Governor’s Secretariat. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Chief Secretary – Administration of the Northern Province, Secretary to the Ministry of Health of the Northern Province, Provincial Commissioner of the Department of Indigenous Medicine of the Northern Province, Assistant Chief Secretary, and Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of Health.

The Ayurvedic Medical Officers Association made a request regarding the creation of new staff grade posts and vacant posts in the Department of Indigenous Medicine of the Northern Province. They also requested for promotions of minor staff and filling of minor staff vacancies. Furthermore, it was pointed out to the Governor that not a single nurse has been appointed under the Department of Indigenous Medicine in the Northern Province. The transfer and the centers for doctors who are being appointed were also discussed. It was also pointed out by the association that doctors working at the provincial level under the Department of Indigenous Medicine in the Northern Province do not register their attendance on the fingerprint machine, but employees working under the local government councils are forced to register their attendance on the fingerprint machine.

The Governor issued instructions to the Secretary of the Ministry of Health regarding the steps to be taken in this regard.
