Social anomalies were systematically encouraged in our areas in the past. However, I believe there is no possibility of such incidents occurring in the future. This was stated by the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vedhanayakan.
The Pachchilaipalli Divisional Secretariat Cultural Festival was held on 15.08.2025 at the Late Velupillai Subramaniam Hall, under the chairmanship of Divisional Secretary T. Jayaseelan. The Hon. Governor attended as the Chief Guest and presented awards to the artists.
In his speech, the Governor said that such festivals are necessary to preserve our unique culture and pass it on to the next generation. Hospitality, compassion, and respect for the elderly are the unique cultures of our Tamils. Changes are inevitable over time, as our proverb says, “The old departs, making way for the new.” However, we must be careful not to adopt things that are unsuitable for our society. Let us embrace only what is good.
We are also concerned about the activities of our younger generation. I firmly believe that, in addition to education, there are two powerful ways to guide and transform them: through art and through sports. We must create opportunities for them in both these fields. By doing so, we can overcome social anomalies and move forward.
“It is good to honor someone while they are still alive. You have honored senior artists here, which is commendable. You have also encouraged young artists. Keep doing this. We will always support the positive steps you are taking to develop the arts,” said the Governor.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Pachchilaipalli Pradeshiya Sabha, Hon. S.Suren, the Assistant Director of the Northern Provincial Department of Cultural Affairs, Mrs. Lakini Niruparaj and many others.
