The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, conducted an inspection visit on 31 July 2025 to a 10-meter section of the Chavakachcheri– Point Pedro Road that remains unreconstructed.
This particular stretch of road had previously been highlighted during the las Jaffna District Coordinating Committee meeting following a dispute over the construction of a culvert along the main road. The culvert, intended to facilitate the flow of floodwaters during the rainy season, became the subject of objections from certain parties, resulting in the suspension of reconstruction work.
The Governor was accompanied by the Secretary to the Governor Northern Province, the Chavakachcheri Divisional Secretary, and the Vice-Chairman of the Chavakachcheri Urban Council during the inspection.
The Chavakachcheri Divisional Secretary informed the Governor that all stakeholders have now reached an agreement to proceed with the construction. In response, the Governor immediately contacted the Northern Provincial Director of the Road Development Authority and instructed him to commence the reconstruction work without delay.
