Founder’s Day and Prize Giving Ceremony of Alaveddy Arunothaya College

An organization thrives when effective leadership is in place.

The most peaceful and joyful period in life is the time spent as a school student—a time that never returns. The happiness and sense of peace found during these years often surpass even those experienced in the highest positions of power. Students should recognize the value of this phase and dedicate themselves to learning,” said the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, Mr. N. Vethanayahan

The Founder’s Memorial Day and Prize Distribution Ceremony of Alawetty Arunodaya College was held on July 9, 2025, at the school’s Sivagnanasothi Auditorium, under the leadership of Principal T. Thayananthan.
The Governor of the Northern Province graced the event as the Chief Guest, while Mrs. Jamuna Rajaseelan, Zonal Director of Education, Valikamam, attended as the Special Guest. Mr. K. Nithyanantham, a retired teacher and distinguished alumnus of Bambalapitiya Hindu College, was honored as the Guest of Honor.

The Governor, in his Chief Guest address after presenting prizes and awards to students who had excelled at both provincial and national levels, said, I joined this college in 1969 as a Grade 4 student and continued my studies here until Grade 8. As an old student, it is a matter of great pride for me to participate in this memorable event today.
Back then, both here and later during my higher studies at Mahajana College, our learning took place entirely within the school. We engaged in activities like gardening, and private tuition was almost unheard of. We were guided by dedicated teachers who not only taught us with commitment but also became lifelong role models. Their influence continues to inspire us to this day

“Whether it is a school or any other institution, success and progress are assured when strong and effective leadership is in place. Therefore, our responsibility goes beyond merely educating students—we must also nurture them to become ethical and capable leaders.
No matter what high positions they may attain in the future, without integrity, they will not earn true respect. The students we see today are the leaders of tomorrow. It is our duty to instill in them the right values and qualities now, so that they grow to become role models who inspire and guide others in the future.

He further stated:
“I have had the opportunity to serve as District Secretary in four districts across the Northern Province. During that time, I was fortunate to work with dedicated and capable officers. Even though I now serve as the Governor, I must admit that the sense of fulfillment and happiness I experienced during my tenure as District Secretary remains unmatched.
Unfortunately, some officers today lose sight of their duty to serve the people. They begin to believe that their positions are permanent and, instead of working for the public good, they use their roles for personal gain.
In past governments, officers who carried out their duties with honesty and integrity often did not receive the recognition they deserved. In some cases, they were even subjected to retaliation. However, there is now a renewed hope that the current government will acknowledge and reward those who serve with honesty. This, in turn, allows them to perform their duties with peace of mind and a sense of purpose.”
