A monthly discussion was held to review the financial and physical progress of the projects implemented this year under the Ministry of Finance & Planning, Law & Order, Lands, Electricity, Housing & Construction, Tourism, Local Government, Provincial Administration, Rural Development, Road Development, Motor Traffic and Transport under the chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, at the Governor’s Secretariat today, Wednesday (16.07.2025).
Speaking at the outset of the discussion, the Governor emphasized the need for efficient expenditure of this year’s allocated funds. He also requested that the heads of departments should pay more attention to the quality of the roads being constructed.
Following this, detailed reviews were conducted on the progress of each department and project under the Ministry of Local Government, the Department of Local Government, the Offices of the Assistant Commissioners of Local Government in each district, the Provincial Department of Lands, the Rural Development Department, the Department of Motor Traffic, the Department of Road Development, the Tourism Authority, and the Northern Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority
Meanwhile, the shortage of personnel under the Department of Local Government was highlighted and it was pointed out that the Department has to face risks in rapidly implementing its revenue and work plans.
Furthermore, it was pointed out that delays in project progress have occurred in certain areas due to a lack of adequate cooperation from some contractors.
The discussion was attended by the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, Mrs. Thanuja Murugesan, Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, M. Nanthagopalan, Secretary to the Ministry of Local Government, A. Sothinathan, Deputy Chief Secretary – Planning, Deputy Chief Secretary – Finance, Director of Buildings Department and other Provincial Directors.
