The field day programme on model village home gardening was held on 11.09.2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the home garden premises of farmer Mrs. Neethirasa Kirujana, at Vannankeni, Thampakamam Palai, under the leadership of Agriculture Instructor Mrs. R. Mathumai, in the Palai Agriculture Instructor Range , Kilinochchi district.
The event was graced by the Deputy Director of Agriculture for Kilinochchi, Mrs. S. Vijayathasan, who participated as the Chief Guest. Also, present were the Agrarian Development Officer of the Department of Agrarian Services Center, the Grama Niladhari of Thampakamam Division, Subject Matter Officers, Agriculture Instructors, Technical Assistants, farmers, and social welfare enthusiasts.
In her address, the Deputy Director of Agriculture spoke about the upcoming programmes planned for 2026 and emphasized that farmers should progress through the practice of home gardening.
The Agrarian Development Officer, in his remarks, highlighted the need to promote home gardening in the future, to produce toxin-free food, and encouraged poor farmers to transform themselves into prosperous individuals.
Farmers, while expressing their views, mentioned that although they are interested in engaging in home gardening activities, they are unable to proceed due to the lack of sufficient land facilities.
