Steps have been taken to introduce a new program called FARM TO GATE with the aim of getting fair prices for the products to the farmers and food producers in the Northern Province. The software designing activities for the FARM TO GATE application have been started on the instructions of the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province Mrs PSM Charles. It is also planned to launch the FARM TO GATE app in January 2024.
Through FARM TO GATE, consumers can directly purchase their required produce from the farmers either in bulk or at retail prices. Through this, farmers and producers can get a fair price. In addition to being able to sell vegetables, fruits and other products before they expire, FARM TO GATE will provide opportunities for consumers to get quality, fresh products directly.
The FARM TO GATE application includes data of farmers and producers, where the produce can be easily procured, quality of produce, quantity in stock, price etc. All these matters are to be supervised by the village-level officers of the respective departmental departments and to provide necessary advice to the farmers and encourage them.
At present, the producers face massive losses due to a lack of proper marketing. With a view to providing a solution to this problem, the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province has commissioned the FARM TO GATE project. It is significant that this new initiative has been started with the cooperation of the Northern Province Ministry of Agriculture, Cooperatives, Rural Development, Industry, Livestock and Local Government Departments.
