A discussion to explore measures for improving education in the Analaitivu and Eluvaitivu regions was held today, Tuesday (16.09.2025), at the Governor’s Secretariat under the leadership of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.
Speaking at the outset of the discussion, the Governor noted that some individuals from the diaspora communities of these regions have voluntarily joined this initiative. He highlighted that while similar efforts were made in the past, the expected results were not achieved. He emphasized the need to involve reliable individuals, form a professional team, and plan the necessary actions.
At the same time, he stressed that education cannot be enhanced solely through infrastructure development. Only through sincere efforts can meaningful changes be brought about, the Governor remarked.
During the continued discussions, topics such as improving facilities for teachers in Analaitivu and Eluvaitivu and collecting details of teachers willing to work in these remote island regions were addressed.
Additionally, the Northern Province Director of Education stated that a report on how to proceed with the initiatives would be submitted after visiting both islands directly.
It was decided during the discussion to initiate the first phase of actions targeting students preparing for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examinations. It was also proposed that ongoing initiatives could be carried out collaboratively by the Provincial Director of Education and the Divisional Secretariat.
The Secretary to the Northern Province Governor, the Deputy Chief Secretary – Administration, Director of Education – Northern Province, the Divisional Secretary of Kayts, the Divisional Secretary of Kopay (former Divisional Secretary of Kayts), and volunteers participating in this effort attended the discussion.
