Development is not merely physical progress; it is also the upliftment of people’s livelihoods – Hon. Governor

With the reconstruction of the Colombothurai landing site, not only will the livelihoods of the people in this area improve, but the locality itself will also become more beautiful. I commend the government that initiated this project and Hon. Minister R.Chandrasekar for his efforts, stated Hon. Governor of Northern Province N. Vethanayahan.

The reconstruction of the Colombothurai landing site has commenced with an allocation of 140 million rupees from the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic Resources, and Marine Resources. The inauguration ceremony was held yesterday evening (18.09.2025) at the Colombothurai landing site.

Addressing the event, the Hon. Governor said: “Development is not merely physical advancement. The livelihoods of the people in the area must also improve. Today’s initiative is one such effort. During my tenure as District Secretary of Jaffna, I made several attempts to develop this landing site, but they were not successful at that time. Today, under the present government, it has become possible.

Within just one year of assuming office, His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has launched several major development projects in the Northern Province, of which this is one. On behalf of the people of the North, I take this opportunity to convey our gratitude to His Excellency the President.

Though this area lies only about 3 kilometers from Jaffna town, it has not been a beautiful village. I believe this reconstruction of the landing site will, in the future, also transform this village into a more attractive one.

I extend my thanks to the Hon. Ministers Bimal Ratnayake and Chandrasekar for spearheading these efforts.”

The event was attended by Hon. Members of Parliament K. Ilankumar, S. Sribavanantharaja, J. Rajeevan, Hon. Municipal Council Members, the Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries, the Jaffna Divisional Secretary, and many people including the public.
