Condolence Message

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Rajavarothiam Sampanthan, the esteemed senior leader of the Tamil National Alliance, Member of Parliament, 14th Leader of the Opposition of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, as well as a respected senior politician and lawyer.

For nearly five decades, Mr. R. Sampanthan represented the Tamil people in the Sri Lankan Parliament, serving as a steadfast voice for their rights. His efforts extended internationally, where he continued to lead the cause of the Tamil community.

It is no exaggeration to say that Mr. R. Sampanthan worked tirelessly for the benefit of the country, promoting ethnic unity, harmony and cohesion. The loss of such a remarkable leader has undoubtedly left an irreplaceable void in the political landscape for the Tamil people and it is great lost to citizens of whole nation.

The voice that was ringing for the rights of the Tamil people is silent today. I pray for the repose of the departed soul of Mr. Rajavarothiam Sampanthan. I express my deepest condolences to his family, relatives and others who are suffering from the loss of him.
