Department of Animal Production and Health has planned to eradicate contagious diseases such as foot and mouth, Haemorrhagic septicaemia, Black quarter in cattle and Ranikhet, Fowlpox , Gumboro in Poultry and Rabies in dog. This will lead to decrease death of livestock and increase production of milk, meat and egg and also reduce the occurrences of human rabies in Sri Lanka.
One discussion held on 11.03.2019 at Provincial Director’s Office with the chairmanship of Dr.S.Vaseeharan, Provincial Director AP&H, NP and Dr. Hettiarachchi, Director (Animal Health) AP&H, Peradeniya. Addl. Provincial Director, Subject matter Specialist, Deputy Provincial Director, Deputy Directors PD Office, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu, Vavuniya and Mannar Districts, Veterinary Surgeons Artificial Insemination Centre, Central AP&H, Peradeniya and PD Office attended in this discussion and decided to prepare a plan schedule to periodical vaccination against contagious diseases in cattle, poultry and dog & cat. This schedule will be for each Veterinary range, District and end up with Provincial programme.
