This discussion took place online this morning – on Monday, 01 December 2025, under the leadership of President Anurakumara Dissanayaka, with the participation of the Governors and Chief Secretaries of all nine provinces.
During the meeting, the President provided guidance on the programmes to be carried out in each province during the post-crisis period, and also inquired into the current ground situation in the provinces.
Providing an update on the situation in the Northern Province, Hon. Governor N. Vethanayahan brought the following matters to the President’s attention:
– Main transport routes to Mullaitivu and Mannar districts have been cut off.
– Telecommunication and electricity distribution services in several areas have not yet returned to normal.
– Immediate needs of the affected people.
After listening to the Northern Governor’s concerns, the President instructed that the urgent matters requiring immediate resolution be listed and forwarded within one hour. Accordingly, urgent needs received from all five districts of the Northern Province were promptly compiled and sent.
Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that efforts to compile comprehensive province-wide impact reports through the five ministries of the Northern Province and their respective departments have been accelerated.
