A special discussion aimed at finding solutions to the issues faced by the residents of the Kallundai area during the rainy season was held under the Leadership of the Hon. Governor.

A special meeting to identify permanent solutions to the long-standing problems faced by the people resettled in the Kallundai area of Jaffna District was held this morning – on Friday, 20 February 2026, at the Governor’s Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.

The residents settled in Kallundai are compelled to relocate during every rainy season due to flooding. Noting that efforts to provide a permanent solution have already commenced, the Governor pointed out that a special project proposal is being prepared by the Northern Province branch of the Institution of Engineers – Sri Lanka and that surveys related to land filling are currently underway.

The possibility of dredging the canal running close to the settlement scheme was also examined. Furthermore, a proposal was put forward to hand over the future maintenance of Koththukkaddikulam to the Valikamam South-West Pradeshiya Sabha following the completion of dredging work.

With regard to these matters, the Governor instructed the relevant officials that the Northern Province branch of the Institution of Engineers – Sri Lanka, together with the Sandilipay Divisional Secretariat, the Valikamam South-West Pradeshiya Sabha and the Office of the Assistant Commissioner of Local Government – Jaffna District, should jointly study the issue and submit an expedited project evaluation proposal at the earliest.
