A meeting between the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, Mr. N. Vethanayahan, and the Chairmen of the Mannar Urban Council and the Manthai West Pradeshiya Sabha was held on Monday, 11 August 2025, at the Governor’s Secretariat.
A request was made to the Governor to initiate investigations into past irregularities within the Mannar Urban Council and to urgently appoint technical officers to implement ongoing development projects.
A request was also made to the Governor to provide support for development projects aimed at increasing the revenue of the Manthai West Pradeshiya Sabha.
In response, the Governor called for a review of the Assessment Tax and assured that the Chairman’s requests would be addressed at the earliest possible opportunity.
Attendees at the meeting included Vanni District Parliamentarian Hon. Selvam Adikkalanathan, Chairman of the Mannar Urban Council Mr. Daniel Vasanthan, Deputy Chairman Mr. Husain, and Chairman of the Manthai West Pradeshiya Sabha Mr. G. Premkumar.
