A formal meeting between the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, Mr. N. Vethanayahan, and Major General Rasika Kumara, the newly appointed Commander of the Jaffna District Army Command, was held at the Governor’s Secretariat on the morning of Thursday, 26th June 2025.
During the meeting, the Honorable Governor requested the relocation of the military fence situated near lands that were released for agricultural use by the Northern Provincial Government last year. The Governor was also informed that a temporary backyard fence is currently being erected, despite the fact that the necessary funding has not yet been allocated.
Furthermore, the Governor noted that complaints have been received from the public regarding incidents of theft occurring during the process of returning land to civilians. He requested that appropriate security measures be implemented to ensure the safe and orderly handover of these lands
The Army Commander also inquired about the prevalence of drug abuse in the Northern Province. In response, the Governor stated that steps are being taken expeditiously to establish a rehabilitation center for individuals struggling with drug addiction in Jaffna.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Governor and the Army Commander exchanged mementos.
