A discussion was held on the development of the Jaffna Fort with financial assistance from the World Bank.

A discussion on the development of the Jaffna Fort with financial assistance from the World Bank was held at the Governor’s Secretariat on Friday morning – 17th October 2025, under the chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.

At the start of the discussion, the Governor emphasized the importance of developing the fort. The project proposal prepared by the Urban Development Authority for the fort’s development was also presented. It was decided to hold detailed talks with the Minister of Buddhist Religious Affairs and Culture and the Ministry Secretary to obtain the Department of Archaeology’s permission to proceed with the project.

The discussion was attended by key stakeholders, including the Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, the Divisional Secretary of Jaffna, the Northern Provincial Director of the Urban Development Authority, the Acting Director General of the Department of Archaeology, engineers from the Road Development Authority, the World Bank team, and a Senior Lecturer in History from the University of Jaffna.
