The meeting between the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, and the officials of the Asian Development Bank’s Drinking Water Supply Project on Tuesday (23.09.2025), at the Governor’s Secretariat.
The discussion focused on the current progress of the drinking water supply project being implemented in Jaffna District with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank. Arrangements to fulfill certain requirements of the project were also discussed.
It was further mentioned that the Asian Development Bank is planning to provide financial assistance in the future for a wastewater management project for Jaffna city, and that discussions are underway regarding this. Although this matter had been included in the Jaffna Water Supply Project in the past, it had been abandoned; steps to revive it were also pointed out.
Additionally, it was conveyed to the Governor that the Asian Development Bank is ready to support the second phase of the Jaffna Peninsula Drinking Water Supply Project, and that discussions are ongoing with the Government in this regard.
Representatives of the Asian Development Bank, representatives of the Jaffna Water Supply Project, the Secretary to the Governor, and the Governor’s coordinating secretaries participated in this discussion.
