Parachute method crop establishment is a modern approach that can potentially enhance yield in paddy cultivation. The field day on the Parachute method of paddy cultivation held on July 4, 2024, at Neelaveddiyar minor tank in Moonrumurippu Village, Nattankandal Agriculture Instructor Division, Mullaitivu District, highlights an innovative approach to enhancing yield in Paddy. The event was conducted under the leadership of Nattangandal Agriculture Instructor Mr. Shanmugarasa Saranraj.
Mrs. Yamini Saseelan, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Mullaitivu, honored the event as the chief guest, Agrarian Development officer, Pandiyankulam, Grama Niladhari, Munrumurippu, Development Officer, Divisional Secretariat participated as guest of Honors. Subject maters officers, Agriculture Instructors, Farmer Organization members and Farmers also participated in the field day.
Deputy Director of Agriculture in Mullaitivu, emphasized in her speech the importance of adopting both the parachute method and machine planting method among farmers. These methods are aimed at lowering the cost of paddy production while simultaneously increasing crop yields. She encouraged other farmers to also consider adopting these techniques for their paddy cultivation. During her address, Mrs. Y expressed her appreciation to the farmers who have already implemented these methods in their cultivation practices. Additionally, she acknowledged the significant role played by the Agriculture Instructors, particularly highlighting the efforts of the Nattangandal Agriculture Instructor and other Agriculture Instructors who provided guidance and support to the farmers in adopting these advanced cultivation methods.
Mr. G. Elankeeran, the Subject Matter Officer provided detailed explanations on agronomic practices related to machine transplanting, parachute transplanting, and broadcasting methods used in paddy cultivation. He highlighted the specific advantages and challenges associated with each method, particularly focusing on their respective costs of production. He answered farmers’ questions also.
After all the guests had shared their comments event was concluded with a field visit and harvest session.
