Jaffna District Coordinating Committee Meeting – 2021

The first Jaffna District Coordinating Committee Meeting for the year 2021 was held on 02 February 2021 at 9.30 am in the auditorium of the District Secretariat. The meeting was co-chaired by Hon. Governor Mrs. PSM Charles, Hon. Parliamentarian Angajan Ramanathan and District Secretary Mr. K.Magesan.

The meeting was organized under the health precautions against COVID-19.

In her address, the Hon. Governor said that the Jaffna District is witnessing various changes and developments in terms of post-war development. However, many of the people’s needs still should be fulfilled. Accordingly, education and health issues will soon be met according to the His Excellency President’s “Vision for Prosperity” policy declaration. She said that she had been informed about the lack of transport facility mainly to the Jaffna Islands and had conveyed it to the top-level authorities and arrangements will be made to find a solution.

In the education sector, the issue of resource allocation for rural schools is being given more importance and is being restructured. Thus, proper transfer policies have been developed and are currently being implemented. She also said that the shortage of human resources was being addressed through the new recruitments using the powers to fill the vacancies given to the provincial governors by the His Excellency President.

In the health sector, the shortage of doctors and nurses and the lack of accommodation for them would be resolved within two months on the basis of a national policy, she said.

Hon. Governor assured that proper solutions will be given to the problems in agriculture, land and other sectors. Departments under the Line Ministries or any of the departments under the Provincial Ministries should not focus on only constructing buildings. Before that the need for those buildings and the human resources for them should be explored first.

She also pointed out that 700 beneficiaries in Vavuniya and 900 beneficiaries in Mullaitivu were not living in the houses distributed to the homeless families. The Divisional Secretaries should ensure that the beneficiaries are selected with the right requirements by relevant authorities.

Parliamentarians Hon. M.A.Sumanthiran, Hon. S.Sritharan and Hon. Kajendrakumar Ponnampalam, Chairman of Northern Provincial Council Hon. CVK Sivagnanam, and Chairmen of Pradeshiya Sabhas, Secretary to the Governor, Coordinating Secretary to the Governor, Additional Government Agent,  Additional Government Agent (Land), District Planning Director, Divisional Secretaries, Department Heads, Staff Officers from Jaffna District Secretariat, and public also participated in the meeting which has been organized under the health precautions against COVID-19.
