“Schools are the institutions that nurture our future generations. Along with imparting education, they must also cultivate leadership qualities in students.” — Hon. Governor

“Competition among students in academics and co-curricular activities is essential. However, it should never give rise to jealousy. We should strive to do well, while also wishing success for others. Only then can our society truly progress,” advised the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.

The annual prize-giving ceremony of Vaddakachchi Central College in the Kilinochchi District was held on Thursday – 06 November 2025, at the school auditorium, under the chairmanship of the Principal, Mr. P. Raveendranathan. The Honorable Governor, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, presented prizes to the students.

In his address, the Hon. Governor said, “I had the privilege of serving as the District Secretary of this district during the final stages of the war. It brings me great joy to take part in this school event after such a long time.

During the previous administration, politicians often expected officials to act according to their directives, leaving little room for honesty and integrity. It was under those circumstances that I chose to take early retirement from government service. Under the present National People’s Power administration, I accepted this position because it allows me to serve with honesty and the courage to do what is right.”

“Schools are the institutions that nurture our future generations. Along with imparting education, it is essential that we also cultivate leadership qualities in our students. The decline of true leadership in society today is one of the key reasons we face many challenges. Those in positions of authority often resort to intimidation instead of inspiration, and they hesitate to take responsibility and deliver results.

Therefore, I urge you — the students who will one day occupy these important positions — to develop strong leadership qualities, guided by integrity, empathy, and a sense of duty.”
“We can only reap what we sow. When we do good for others, goodness will return to us — this is the law of nature. Every student should remember this. With the right mindset and determination, you can achieve anything,” the Honorable Governor said. “I encourage you to develop leadership qualities alongside your academic knowledge, and to contribute to the future prosperity of this province.”

The Hon. Member of Parliament, S. Sritharan, and the Zonal Director of Education for Kilinochchi South also participated in the event.
