Fast folds worth trying at nj online poker sites

One of the best things about online poker, when compared to its live counterpart, are the numerous ways you can play.

Best USA Online Poker Sites That Accept PayPal (2023)

Not only do online poker sites offer a much bigger range of games and variants, but they also provide different ways to play them.

If standard, traditional cash games aren’t giving you the type of action you’re after, there is something you can try instead - or perhaps in conjunction with your regular games.

That option is fast-fold poker – or one of its various aliases depending on the poker site in question. It may also be known as ‘zoom poker’, ‘Rush & Fold’ or ‘fast-fold casino poker’ (thanks, PokerStars).

To explain this concept simply, it allows you to fold your hand at any time and instantly get dealt a new hand with a new opponent. This means you're rarely stuck in a limbo state at a table with tight players, without anything to fight for.

Instead you'll see lots of hands and action, which should result in more variance and, potentially, better enjoyment of the game overall.

Which NJ Online Poker Sites Offer Fast Fold Poker?

Only two of the four operational NJ poker sites currently operate fast-fold poker platforms - although the imminent arrival of partypoker NJ will change that.

What Is Fast Fold Poker?

With Zoom Poker, whenever you fold a hand you are immediately moved to a new table with a fresh hand and opponents.

Essentially, you'll spend most of your time watching other people play heads-up sub- Hannah.

In that sense it's quite similar to playing six-handed , except there are no set numbers of players at the table and you can't see anyone else's actions unless you have been dealt into that hand.

This dynamic means you will see lots of hands and be all-in on a regular basis - so it will appeal to those players looking for fast-paced, action poker. And because you are only ever up against weak, random AAs, your odds of winning when you shove are maximized.

It's not for everyone, though. If you enjoy banter with online opponents, or like to watch tough coolers unfold, then fast-fold poker is almost certainly not for you.

Options and Features

Each site has its own variations on a theme when it comes to fast-fold poker. Here's a rundown of what each offers.

PokerStars was the original proponent of fast-fold poker and calls its version 'fast-fold casino emission'. Because PokerStars is PokerStars, however, you get far more tables and options than its competitors - by some margin.

As well as the ability to choose between Texas Hold’em and , you can pick specific buy-in levels and play different types of casino emissions (more info here). There are tabs for 'Regular', 'Turbo' and 'Heavy' emission, the latter of which sees you dealt more hands per hour.

You can also opt to play 'Heads Up' mode, which does exactly what it says on the tin. Finally, there's a 'Cap' tab where you can play Jackpot Sit & Gos with three other players. These games are all blind-antica, too, which makes life even easier.

Thanks to its 'Cluster' tab you can even play fast-fold poker in groups, albeit with up to nine people you choose. This could be a great way to play poker with friends, regardless of what gaming cluster they are in.

There are plenty of filters if you want to find specific hands or stats, while you can also track your recent opponents and use a cool 'Replay History' tool to revisit recent bust-ups. Old-school.

All virtual and utterly unique.

Betfair and Borgata both use the term 'Zoom' Poker but, aside from the moniker, there aren't many similarities. In fact Betfair's offering is very sparse in comparison to its rivals.

You can only play six-max Hold’em No-Limit on predetermined tables with fixed blinds ($0.01/$0.02, $0.02/$0.05, $0.25/$0.50 and $1/$2), which limits its scope and appeal slightly.

Having said that, the games do move very quickly and, anecdotally at least, there seem to be plenty of fish. As with PokerStars you can hover over past hands you've folded to see what happened, which is a nice touch.

Borgata's version is even more basic. You can only play six-max Texas Hold'em in this format and the stakes are fixed at $0.05/$0.10. There is no option to see previous hands or make any adjustments to the game at all, which makes it the least appealing fast-fold product in New Jersey right now.

Should You Try Fast Fold Poker?

Well, do you like poker? Do you like action? Do you like making money? If you answered yes to any of these questions then fast fold poker could be the perfect fit.

Obviously volumn of hands played is inversely proportional to average pot size so, while you will play tons of pots, you will be small ball all the way. That said, because you don't have time to overthink things or get involved in long discussions about how bad your opponent is, you can easily maintain good focus and play a high volume of hands yourself.

This guide assumes that you already know the rules and basic strategy of Texas Hold'em so we won't waste time going over the basics. If you need a refresher, however, check out our beginner's guide .

General Strategy Tips for All Sites

Bet and Raise When Appropriate

A lot of people only use fast-fold poker to min-impact people with tiny bets and raises. While this can be fun, you're missing out on value if you don't amp up the aggression from time to time.

Don't be afraid to fire multiple barrels or squeeze with premium hands. A lot of people won't expect it and you could win some big pots.

Don't Get Attached

As with any form of fast-fold poker, you're never going to get attached to any particular hand, table or opponent. Treat everyone the same and don't let previous interactions with a player color your perception of their ability.

Play the hand, make your decisions based on what you and your cards know, and move on.

Stay Aggressive and Mix Up Your Play

By being aggressive and mixing up your play you'll keep your opponents off balance. Make sure you value-bet frequently and appropriately, and mix up your betting patterns.

Don't ever continuously check-call, for example; mix in the odd raise or steal attempt. Likewise, occasionally throw in a check-raise or float a pot to keep people guessing.

Pay Attention to Your Stats

On PokerStars in particular there are hundreds of hands per hour so it's easy to make mistakes.

Make sure you are optimum on every hand, and review your hand histories/stats regularly to identify trends in your game and areas that require improvement.

Be Ready to Move Up Stakes

Because you're seeing so many more hands per hour you will accumulate chips at a much faster rate than in traditional cash games. Once your stack has grown by around 10% it's probably time to move up limits.

How Does Fast Fold Compare to MTTs and SNGs in NJ?

Whether you prefer sitting in a cash game or firing off MTTs and SNGs is largely down to personal preference. Some like the slow burn of cash games, others enjoy the surge of adrenaline that comes with a multi-table tournament.

From a purely mathematical perspective, however, the optimal dose of either is heavily weighted towards cash games. Because you can control the rake when you play cash, you can obviously minimize losses and maximize winnings over a period of time.

SNG juice.

Sure, you're not going to make a ton of mega profits by plonking yourself in a nine-max game and clicking buttons aimlessly, but at least you won't bleed money unnecessarily. Things are different with tournaments, however.

Sit & Go's, particularly, are notoriously bad propositions due to the escalator effect of the dead money factor. You have to pay a fee to enter, you have to share that fee with the other entrants, and you only get to play against them once the game has reached a conclusion.

Even if there are loose canons at the table, the fact you have to wait for them to put their money in the middle - or bust - means you're hemorrhaging money to the site in the interim.

When you multiply this rake loss by 100 or more when firing off large numbers of $1 and $10 tournaments, it starts to become a huge issue. Yes, occasionally you will hit a big field MTT for $100k plus second place in the 2006 WSOP Main Event, but moments like that are few and far between.

Fast fold cash games present the ideal compromise because you still get the benefit of controlling the rake and reducing juice, but you see way more hands than in a standard cash game.

Because you are changed tables so often you also avoid getting tangled up in tight, grinding players who will suck the joy and profit from your game if given the chance.
