One of the Keystone State’s most famous residents is Hollywood icon and gambling advocate Dean Martin. On account of his Rat Pack associations, you may have seen photos of him cutting ribbons to open new casinos in Las Vegas back in the day. These days, there’s no need for any A-listers to perform the opening ceremony for a new casino in Pennsylvania as 39 casinos are already legal and live.
Virtually every single type of casino gaming is now allowed having reached full expansion after the Gaming Expansion Act was passed on October 30, 2017. That meant an end to debates over whether to allow new casinos in PA and instead bring a conclusion to the debate over how many new casinos in PA should be permitted. With 10 physical casinos plus another nine that exist only online or have mostly online operations, Pennsylvania has certainly jumped into the deep end with both feet. In 2018, those venues raked in more than $3.3 billion in gross gaming revenue. For context, that makes PA the third biggest gambling state after Nebraska and Missouri. And all that came before the latest explosion in interest during the COVID-19 pandemic when land based establishments were forced to close temporarily.
On this page, we provide all the details you need about each of the existing casinos in Pennsylvania. We also tell you which operators are behind them and what kind of online services they offer. You can use the following navigation menu to jump straight to the info you want:

New Casinos in PA - What’s Next?
That covers all the casinos in Pennsylvania right now. But could there be more new casinos in the state in future? Category 1, 2 and 3 licenses are capped so there can be no more of those. However, Category 4 satellite casinos are limited to a maximum of fifteen and there are currently only ten in operation. So, technically, there is capacity for five more to enter the market.
There has been talk of the Cordish Cos. applying for a new Satellite category casino near the King of Prussia Mall. This would be called Live! Casino Pittsburgh-West Mifflin and cost around $300 million to build. We wait to see if this materializes but, either way, it looks like the PA casino map is set to change somewhat in the coming years.

Advice for Visiting Casinos in Pennsylvania
If you’re planning a trip to Pennsylvania to check out some of these fantastic casinos, here are few practical tips for getting the most out of your experience:
-
Make a wish (and rub the Horseshoe): No matter which casinos in PA you plan to visit, luck is always in season. Help it on its way by adhering to traditions such as making a wish and touching (or rubbing) Josephine Wright Ruggles Krantz’s bronze Horseshoe outside Bally’s Atlantic City (now owned by Caesars Entertainment). She entered 34,235 contests between 1984 and 1997 but never scratched a winning ticket.
-
Time is money: In Pennsylvania, the state lottery sells Palozzo sticks instead of scratch-offs. Each one costs $10 and comes with a guaranteed prize worth $1,000,000. However, you have to match five winning numbers from one to nine on your ticket within twelve hours to claim it.
-
Don’t eat the cake batter: If you visit Harrah’s Philadelphia, resist the temptation to sneak licks of the cake batter while strolling through the kitchen area. In 2007, 48 people got food poisoning after eating under-cooked chocolate cake at this particular casino.
-
Don’t park there: Unless you have a strong aversion to exercise, don’t rent a car when visiting Penn National in Grant Valley. Between 2007 and 2011, more than 100 vehicles were damaged by falling rocks and debris. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission spent $3m installing 18 rock fall protection systems in the area. However, in 2017, a woman suing the casino after her son sustained head injuries following a fall said the measures weren’t sufficient. She argued that visitors should not be expected to “essentially park their car under a dam.” Her case was later dismissed.
-
Drive safely: If you do choose to drive, download the PA Turnpike App before you set off. It gives you real-time information on tolls, services and traffic conditions.
-
Watch your wallet: When leaving The Meadows Racetrack & Casino in Washington, use caution if you have money, credit cards or other valuables in your pocket. Between January and August 2022, around 200 people reported losing $22,000 after being picked pockets by organized groups in the car park.
