Poker Games That Will Up Your Social Game

ALEXANDER BILLINGS , Content Editor · 29 November, 2023

Want some new party games? Instead of another round of King’s Cup, why not try a poker game? You’re probably already playing one of the already, but there’s much more to this crazy card game can offer your social life.

From simple drinking games to fiendish cash games, here are five poker games to spice up your next get-together.

5 Easy Poker Games to Spice Up Your Next Party

Looking for an online site with easy games to build your bankroll before you impress your friends? and get started with thousands of other games.

1. One-Eyed Jacks (aka Chasin’ the Jack)

One-Eyed Jacks is a fun poker game to play when drunk. Or with beginners. Or both.

Deal every player one card at a time face down, starting on the left of the dealer. The first card is his; he chooses whether to keep it or swap it for the top card of the deck (or the discard pile). He then passes his two cards to the next player, who does the same. House rules state that you have to either keep or switch your card without looking, which adds to the fun.

You can see all the cards you’ve passed, which makes it tempting to give misleading signals to the player currently deciding what to do. However much you may want them to, players are not allowed to peek at the cards they are passing.

Play carries on like this until all players have had the opportunity to pick and pass seven cards. The eighth card is dealt face up – the first community card. More cards are added to the community pile every round, with the speed increasing towards the end.

After the seventh round (known as first street), players start to bet. Another card is added to the community pile on each subsequent round:

  • Second street: 2 cards faced
  • Third street: 3 cards faced
  • Fourth street: 4 cards faced
  • River: 5 cards faced (this is the “turn” in Texas Hold’em)
  • Fifth street (AKA the river): 6 cards faced

The final card is dealt face down, giving each player a seven-card hand. The person to the left of the dealer begins, and betting continues clockwise. The aim is to hold to the best Five-Card Draw hand once the betting is over.

As this is a poker game, you can bluff your way to victory if you don’t actually have a pair. House rules can make things interesting. For example, you could say anyone caught looking at their hands while passing them receives a permanent Jack.

Two-Eyed Jacks (aka Kings Wild)

This variation is exactly the same, except that all players start with two cards instead of one. In this version of the game, however, any player dealing themselves or another player an Jack must say “Jack’s wild.” If they forget, that Jack is now a joker – an extra wild card along with the usual jokers.

Having more cards to begin with ramps up the chances of forgetting to say “Jack’s wild,” which increases the likelihood of someone forgetting and leaving themselves with two wild cards come fifth street.

Fun.

2. Strip Poker (aka High-Low-Jack)

If you’re looking for a way to and be popular at the same time, this is the game for you.

High-low-jack is a difficult poker game to find being as it’s not technically a “proper” variant, but most regular poker players have played it at some point during their childhood/teenage years.

The idea is pretty straightforward.

Each player puts down an ante (house rules decide how much), and play starts with the dealer. The dealer can choose to check or bet.

If the dealer bets, every other player must either match the bet or fold. If any player matches the bet, play carries on clockwise from the dealer. Each player has the same option.

When you look at your cards, you can either show them immediately (with no bet) by saying “high,” or you can have a go at improving your hand by saying “low.”

“Jack’s” wild in this game, and so are the aces.

The winner of each hand takes the pot, and depending on the size of the pot, the winner gets to pick an item of clothing to remove (if you’re playing strip).

Alternatively, players can put down an item of clothing they’d rather the person to their left didn’t remove, giving that person the choice between taking the pot or picking an item from their pool.

If a player folds, they have to put in double the ante. The hand is won by the player with the highest scoring hand –wrapped around from a Royal Flush to a high pair.

Indian Poker is a fun casino poker game that also goes by the name of Seven-Card Stud.

All players put down an initial ante. Each player is dealt three cards face down (called hole cards) and one card face up. The person with the lowest ranked card (anyone with nothing wins if it’s a suit draw) puts in a bet. They can choose to bet any amount between the minimum and the maximum.

Play carries on clockwise from the person with the show card. Everyone else has three options:

  1. Match: Bet the same amount as the player before them.
  2. Raise: Add to the current bet with a higher amount. The bet must be enough to force the original bettor to think “do I call and match, or risk losing everything by going higher?” The last bettor gets the power, so players need to consider how much they are prepared to lose if the next player raises again or goes all in.
  3. Folderol: Fold and wait for the next hand.

Any player can check when it’s their turn to bet if there was no bet on the previous round (ie they were lucky enough to get the card with the lowest rank).

Players who chose to bet or raise on the previous round are dealt a card face up, and the same thing happens on each subsequent round. The betting continues in a clockwise direction, with players adding bets or matching existing ones.

In this poker game, the aim is to end up with the best five-card hand possible from your hole cards and the table cards. There are seven rounds in total. Players can start forming their hands after fourth street, when they have received four cards.

7-Card Draw (aka Chicago)

Like 7-Card Stud, but entirely to chance. No strategy required beyond deciding when/whether to bet. Based on the texture, ALexander Billials is pretty good at this poker game.

Deal each player seven cards face down. Instantly, simultaneously reveal the last card. The player holding the highest value card is dealt one additional card face up. The player with the second-highest value card receives the next publicly revealed card, face up. This continues until all players have one card face up.

Enter a second deployment phase. Again, all cards are visible, and the player holding the highest-ranked card receives one card from the top of the pack, also visible.

Players exchange unused cards for new ones via the deck. The player to the left of the dealer begins. They request a number of cards between zero and seven. The dealer reveals that many cards face down from the bottom of the pack. The player then chooses which of these cards replace cards from their current hand.

All exchanges happen out of view of the other players. Once the dealer replenishes the discards, the next player clockwise plays. Players cannot look at the cards they have just been dealt until everyone has had a go. At this point, another round of betting ensues, beginning with the player to the left of the dealer.

A final round of card exchanges takes place, and more betting. The best five-card hand from the combination of hidden and exposed cards wins. Because players can see some or all of other players’ cards, this version involves a bit of .

These sound great! I’m particularly excited to try Outlaws, which I haven’t seen before. And hey, who knows? Maybe one of these will become the next King’s Casino. I’ve heard rumors of a poker version of Beer Pong called EPIC, but I can’t find any rules or info about it. Does anyone out there know anything about it?
