Tribal Casinos in Michigan
Michigan has 12 Indian casinos, which account for 85% of the state's revenue from gambling. These venues employ about 14,000 people. In recent years, the legislators tried to legalize and regulate internet gambling, but the bills died in the House Tax Policy Committee without any further action.
It’s interesting that some of the Michigan tribal casinos used to operate on boats and were forced to move to land following the passage of Proposal A in 1996 and the US Supreme Court decision of 2000.

In 2016, Michigan casinos generated $1.34 billion in aggregated revenues, which is a 4.5% year-on-year increase. Class III gaming establishments reported a 4.9% growth to $1.27 billion, while the lone Class II facility recorded a 1.9% drop to $74.2 million. When compared to 2015, the overall revenue was down 1.2%.
According to the latest data, the top five performing gaming facilities in the state of Michigan were:
