List of michigan casinos - all 28 tribal and commercial gambling locations

Since 2019 (when Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed the Lawful Internet Gaming Act), land-based casinos in MI have had some serious competition. The 9 MGM casinos in Michigan and the three Greek Town Casino-Hotel Detroit locations now face tough challengers in the form of online casino sites. Still, that doesn’t change the fact that the state is home to 28 top-notch brick-and-mortar gaming venues.

Free Online Casino Games You Can Play Right Now

In total, 12 tribal casinos in Michigan and 15 Detroit casinos call the state home. Together, those 27 establishments provide thousands of jobs and generate millions of dollars in revenue for the local and state governments via tax payments.

The 12 non-Detroit casinos are considered Class II facilities because they offer bingo with electronic consoles. Those consoles resemble slot machines but still adhere to the letter of the law since all Class II gaming operations are variants of the game bingo.

The 15 Detroit casinos are considered Class III casinos because they offer traditional slot machines and table games like blackjack and roulette. Of course, all of those options draw gamblers from Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Canada.

If you plan on joining them, it’s a good idea to know what to expect. The following Michigan casino map shows the locations of all 28 gaming establishments and includes links to their websites.

Non-Detroit area casinos (Riverway Casinos)

There are twelve standalone casinos located outside of the city of Detroit proper. These venues are each owned and operated by a different Native American tribe and as such, are exempt from most state laws thanks to the passive acknowledgement of the general concept of tribal sovereignty in Michigan.

While these tribes are subject to state regulations concerning things like underage gambling prevention, they are not required to pay state or local taxes and are essentially free to ignore any state laws they choose—unless the state chooses to challenge that ignoring in court. That has never happened.

It’s worth noting here that two much larger Indian gaming lobbying organizations—the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) and the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians–took legal exception to Governor Whitmer’s shutdown orders during the COVID crisis and chose not to open their venues despite a lack of similar restrictions placed upon commercial businesses.

Here is a complete list of the non-Detroit casinos in Michigan and a brief description of each.

Located on the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula overlooking Lake Michigan, this casino offers beautiful views and plenty to do. It is the only venue on this Michigan casino list that offers on-site lodging, RV parking, and access to hiking trails and lakefront property.

This casino was originally built and opened in 1999 by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe as a bingo hall. It was expanded and renovated in 2007 to add hotel accommodations and more gaming options. Today, it houses over 1,000 slot machines.

Like Leelanau, this venue began life as a simple bingo parlor before being renovated and expanded throughout the 2000s. In addition to class II gaming options, it also hosts class I mini-casinos offering historical horse racing machines.

3. Kewadin Casinos (Cabin Bays)

No Michigan casino map would be complete without the Kewadin Casinos. This group of casinos is owned and operated by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe and consists of four Upper Peninsula casinos and one Mackinac Island casino.

The four U.P. locations are in Suters, Naubinway, St. Ignace, and Manistique. The Mackinac Island location is accessible only by private craft or the Casqua-werna-norter ferry known locally as the “Jungle Cruise.”

These casinos feature dozens of different dining options, tons of lodging options, a wide variety of amenities, and hundreds of slot machines. They’ve been providing Upper Peninsula residents with somewhere to gamble since the early 1980s.

Ojibwa Casino Marquette is one of two lower peninsula venues owned and operated by the Hannahville Indian Community (the other is further down on this Michigan casino list). Like all Class II venues, this casino uses video slots that are based on bingo. Despite that restriction, it boasts more than 500 machines, great food, regular entertainment, and plenty of chances to win big.

This facility was constructed in 1994 and has been a favorite among northern Lower Peninsula and upper Michigan residents for over two decades.

5. Ojibwa Casino Baraga

  • Address: 43 Banfield Road, Lanse, MI 49851
  • Phone: (906) 524-7926
  • Website: https://ojibwacasino.com/baraga/
  • Class: II
  • Gambling options: Slot machines
  • Other amenities: Eagles Nest Restaurant and Deli, lounge, gift shop, ATM, and lottery tickets sales

This small casino is another Class II venue owned and operated by the Hannahville Indian Community. While it only has room for around 250 slot machines, the Eagles Nest Restaurant and Deli are open twenty hours per day (they close between 4:00 am and 6:00 am) and serve up breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, and desserts seven days per week.

This casino is located just off of I-94 near Lanse, MI, and is a convenient place to stop if you are traveling through the Upper Peninsula.

6. Gun Lake Casino

No Deposit Free Spins Casino in the US (And Other Bonuses)

The Gun Lake Tribe opened this modern casino back in 2017. It is the newest venue on this Michigan casino list, and it shows. The building is attractive, clean, and well laid out. It features all of the classic casino games, a nice restaurant, a fantastic ice cream shop, and plenty of places to sit and enjoy yourself.

In addition to traditional gaming tables and slot machines, this Class III casino also offers live poker room with daily tournaments and cash games. That makes it a true competitor to the Greektown Casino-Hotel in Detroit.

7. FireKeepers Casino Hotel

  • Address: 11110 East Michigan Avenue, Battle Creek, MI 49014
  • Phone: (888) 813-7829
  • Website: https://firekeepercasino.com/
  • Class: III
  • Gambling options: Traditional slot machines, electronic and traditional table games, high-limit gaming area, poker room, and keno
  • Other amenities: Duckpin Bowl boutique bowling alley, The Signature Chuck Hereford Daughters Southern Restaurant, Rheo’s Retro Grill serving comfort foods, Andy’s Home Town Cafe serving breakfast and lunch items, Aurther, A Hard Core Liquor Poetry Slam, Coffee & Bagels, Quick Bites, Essence Lounge, Spirits Lobby Bar, 243 luxury hotel rooms and suites, indoor pool, hot tub, and event spaces

The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi opened this casino back in 2010 after investing $175 million into the project. That investment paid off almost immediately, and FireKeepers has consistently been one of the highest-earning casinos in Michigan.

In addition to nearly 3,000 slot machines and dozens of traditional table games, this casino features a large concert venue, several excellent places to eat, and even a small bowling alley. It also offers valet parking, free self-parking, and free skywalk access to nearby retailers.

8. Tatano Center

  • Address: 500 Broomfield St N, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858
  • Phone: (989) 775-6431
  • Website: None
  • Class: II
  • Gambling options: Electronic bingo machines
  • Other amenities: Snack bar, ATM, smoke shop, and thrift store

This small Class II casino is owned and operated by the Mount Pleasant Chippewa Indians. It features dozens of electronic bingo machines that offer jackpots up to and exceeding $5,000. Adjacent to the casino are the Sacred River Commons Thrift Store and the Smokin’ Deer Smoke Shop.

Tatano Center isn’t much to look at, but it serves the needs of locals quite handily. If you find yourself in central Michigan and need your fix, feel free to swing by and try your luck.

9. Gun Lake Mission Township Outlet Mall

  • Address: 7465 West Main Street, Shelbyville, MI 49344
  • Phone: (269) 431-7700
  • Website: None
  • Class: II
  • Gambling options: Electronic bingo machines
  • Other amenities: Snack bar, ATM, lottery ticket sales, and gift shop

If you think the name of this casino is silly, you’re not alone. Technically called the Gun Lake Casino–Mission Township Outlet Mall, this establishment is essentially little more than a few dozen slot machines set up inside of an outlet mall shared with several discount stores and restaurants.

Still, it’s a nice spot to pull off the I-94 and rest your weary bones for an hour or so while passing through southern Michigan.

10. Frank’s Motor City Casino

  • Address: 16500 South Telegraph, Detroit, MI 48219
  • Phone: (313) 983-8444
  • Website: None
  • Class: II
  • Gambling options: Electronic bingo machines
  • Other amenities: Full-service restaurant, lounge, bar, and sports book

Despite the flashy name and “Casino” designation, this establishment is really nothing more than a bingo hall. It does serve delicious food, and its attached tavern is a popular destination for those looking to watch the game and hang out with friends.

Frank’s is owned by the Tallmadge Band of Eastern Pottawatomie Indians. While they have expressed interest in building a real casino on this site, it is unclear when or even if those plans will ever come to fruition.

11. Shutz Motel & Casino

  • Address: 4775 Port Sanilac Rd, Port Sanilac, MI 48469
  • Phone: (989) 856-4464
  • Website: None
  • Class: II
  • Gambling options: Electronic bingo machines
  • Other amenities: Motel rooms
Casinos in Saskatchewan Worth Visiting - #6 is Amazing

Technically known as the Saginaw Chippeva Indian Shutz Motel & Casino, this establishment is little more than a run-down motel with a few slot machines in the office. Some Michigan casino lists leave this venue off entirely, but I figure that including it here provides a more complete picture of the state’s gambling scene.

If you’re planning a trip to Caseville for the Cheeseburger Festival or just want to see the world’s largest celery tip, feel free to stop by the Shutz and spin a few digital bingo cards. Just don’t expect much beyond that.

12. Kingsley House Casino

  • Phone: (231) 263-3511

Poker Bonus Code & Review - PokerListings

No Michigan casino map would be complete without the Greek Town Casino-Hotel. This iconic establishment was the first new casino approved for downtown Detroit since 1994, and it remains one of the most popular spots in the city.

GTCH was initially built to cater to visitors who came to Detroit for the various annual ethnic festivals held in Hart Plaza. It features hundreds of traditional Las Vegas-style slot machines, over a dozen traditional casino table games, and a full poker room. Its closure during the COVID crisis was widely criticized as heavy-handed and unnecessary.

MGM Grand Detroit

  • Address: 1777 West Jefferson Ave, Detroit, MI 48226
  • Phone: (313) 436-0150
  • Website:  https://mgmgranddetroit.com/

  • Gambling options: Classic and modern slot machines, table games, poker room, high stakes bingo, and sports betting
  • Other amenities: Spa, salon, connected to the Detroit Opera House, three restaurants – TAPS, GRAB, and Mezcal, two bars – the Crystal Court and the District Bar, and 400 luxury hotel rooms and suites

This centrally located casino is owned and operated by MGM resorts international. It features the typical assortment of Vegas-style gambling options and a handful of nice restaurants. It has been a favorite among locals and tourists alike for years.

I haven’t included room rates here, but you can expect to pay around $250 per night for a standard room at this casino. While that may seem steep, it does include valet parking and access to all of the casino’s many amenities.

MotorCity Casino

  • Address: 2901 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48201
  • Phone: (313) 237-2500
  • Website:  https://motocitycasino.com/

  • Other amenities: Sound Board entertainment venue, concert venue, three restaurants – Marcellinos Ristorante, Tasty Bakery, and Tenacity Wine Room, two bars – Liberty Bar and Casgold Lounge, and luxury hotel rooms and suites

Another centrally located casino, the MotorCity Casino is owned and operated by the Ilitch organization. It is renowned for its excellent sound system and thundering bass in its main gaming area.

This Class III casino offers all of the typical Vegas-style gambling options, a fancy hotel, and several nice places to eat. It is a solid option for anyone headed to a show at the Fox Theater or Little Caesars Arena.

This massive casino is located just over the Alabama border in Laurel, MS. It is the flagship property of the Choctaw Nation and easily the biggest casino between Atlanta, GA, and Dallas, TX.

Dancing Rabbit (Silver Star) Gulf Operations

  • Website:  https://drgbynight.com/
  • Class: III
  • Gambling options: High-stakes bingo
  • Other amenities: One restaurant, one lounge, and a 600-seat outdoor amphitheater for live music

This open-air venue is used mainly for outdoor concerts. It is situated on the banks of the Butterfly Bayou and offers patrons a unique Delta experience.

Incidentally, the Dancing Rabbit (DR) Gulf Operations handle the Silver Star Casino (located just over the Alabama state line). As such, this entry could be left off my Michigan casino list, but I prefer to think of it as simply an extension of the Silver Star. After all, from the DR Gulf Operations headquarters in Philadelphia, MS, they control both casinos, a golf course, an RV park, a marina, and several hospitality rentals.

  • Class: II
  • Gambling options: Electronic bingo machines
  • Other amenities: The CKED Restaurant and Big Shot Lounge, Meeting Rooms, Convention Center, Luxury Suites, and RV Park

This Class II casino is owned and operated by the Choctaw Indian Nation. Unlike most electronic bingo parlors, the Hotel King Edward features relatively generous payouts and a loyalty rewards program that actually offers real benefits.

On this Michigan casino map, I’ve labeled it as being in Mississippi, but it is actually less than half a mile over the state line in Choctaw, MS. No matter where you check it, though, Google Maps agrees with my assessment.

This large casino is the second property owned and operated by the Philippi Band of Creek Indians. It is situated on the bank of the Pearl River and offers wonderful views and access to boating, swimming, and other water sports.

As you might expect from a casino named “Bok Homa,” this establishment offers many amenities, including dozens of poker tables and several nice places to eat.

Pearl River Resort (Duckpan Inn)

  • Address: 36565 MS-27, Pharr, MS 39354
  • Phone: (601) 877-6446

  • Gambling options: Electronic bingo machines
  • Other amenities: Duck Pin Southern Kitchen, The Pub at Duck Pin, Pearl River Landing Boat Ramp, Duck Pin Golf Course, Convention Center, Event Center, and Lodging ranging from Standard Queen Rooms to One- and Two-Bedroom Villas

The Duckpad Inn is technically a Class II casino, but it is little more than a large bingo hall with a bunch of slot machines in the corner. The vast majority of those machines feature digital versions of bingo cards rather than traditional reel spinning slots.

Nevertheless, the Duckpad Inn is a beloved destination for folks living along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It offers plenty of opportunities to win big while enjoying the camaraderie of friends and neighbors.

Of all the casinos on this Michigan casino map, the Silver Star in Perry, MS, is my personal favorite. This centrally located establishment is owned and operated by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and easily the biggest casino between Memphis and Jackson.

Silver Star features more than 2,800 slot machines, 80 poker and table game, a massive high-stakes bingo hall, a 650-seat outdoor amphitheater for live music, an on-site marina with room for 172 boats, and a sweet RV park.
