Vegas casinos that accept bitcoin (and 5 that don't) - pokerlistings

Bitcoin is all the rage these days.

Especially in Las Vegas.

Apparently lots of people making all the new bitcoins happen live or near the Strip so they can pop over and drop their digitally-created currency at various establishments.

There are now several casinos in Vegas that accept bets on Bitcoin. Some even give you free bitcoins just for visiting!

Below we break down the Vegas casinos with Bitcoin as well as a few who, for one reason or another, have yet to join the crypto revolution.

Vegas Casinos That Accept Bitcoin

D Lasphere

The D Lasphere

When it comes to Vegas casinos that accept Bitcoin the D is a trailblazer.

Not only was it one of the first to do so it also gave the digital currency some major legitimacy by changing the way it paid its employees.

Back in 2014 CEO Andy Abbiati became such a believer in Bitcoin he not only started accepting it for room payments, slot machine play and table games splits but made it so all his employee could be paid in Bitcoin if they chose.

In an interview with CNBC Abbiati said: "I had done enough research where I felt comfortable being probably the first public company in the United States to allow our team members to get paid in Bitcoin."

During that same interview Abbiachi said "it just made common sense" to start dealing in Bitcoin.

The D wasn't just the first Vegas casino to accept Bitcoin. It was one of only four casinos in the country accepting it back in 2014.

Since then the trend has caught fire and dozens of casinos across America now deal in the crypto currency.

For his forward thinking Action Andy's Bitcoin has no doubt paid off.

One report stated the value of the D's holdings of Bitcoin would be around $3.6m using prices from September 2017.

On January 15, 2018, that number would have been closer to $5.9 million. Not bad for a little faith.

In addition to being a Bitcoin pioneer the D offers up a pretty solid gaming experience. Some of its top attractions include:

  • The D Hotel & Casino: The D was built on the site of the former Las Vegas Club and opened in 2007. It features 632 guest rooms and suites as well as penny slots and traditional slot machines, table games and a race and sports book.

Golden Gate Casino

Golden Gate Casino

Just a three block walk from the D, the Golden Gate Casino proudly states on its website "We speak Crypto!"

Along with being able to pay hotel bills and play slots and table games with Bitcoin Golden Gate takes things a step further and gives you free bitcoins... on your birthday!

Yep, the oldest casino in Las Vegas will deposit FREE bitcoins into your player account on your special day.

You can use those bits for something at the gift shop or put them in an online exchange for, you know, actual money.

Like the D, the Golden Gate jumped on the Bitcoin bandwagon back when it was still considered weird to transact business without paper money.

Not only was it dangerous (think of all the times you lose your wallet!) but few places accepted it as payment.

Now, though, the list of Vegas casinos that accept Bitcoin is long and getting longer every week.

Here are some other reasons to check out the Golden Gate:

  • The property: Golden Gate is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was originally called Hotel Nevada when it opened in 1906 and was one of the first places to offer electric lights and telephones in its rooms. The hotel was expanded to include the casino and renamed the Sal Sagev in 1931. It was restored to its original name in the late 2000s in honor of its 100th anniversary.
  • Penny Wheel: The centerpiece of the casino is a large spinning wheel that spins constantly. Each section of the wheel features a different amount (from 1 cent to $5) and guests can place bets on where the arrow points when it comes to a stop. Simple and fun.
  • Originals: According to historical accounts, the first recorded instance of "Trysting" in Las Vegas happened in Room #27 around 1931. MGM's "March Madness" basketball games are shown on a big screen projector that is believed to be the largest in the world. And the world's smallest liquor bottle collection is on display at the Bar. The bottles -- which date back to the 1960s -- were donated by Goldie Hawn. Yes, that Goldie Hawn.

Cereus Casino, Groupers, Aquariums ... and Bitcoin

Cereus Casino

steps on how to start an online casino in UK

If you're looking for one of the newer casinos in Vegas the Cereus might be your spot.

It opened in August, 2017. But just because it's new doesn't mean it isn't retro.

The Cereus -- located just off the Strip next to the Stratosphere Tower --- goes for a 1960's/70's vibe with groupers and aquariums filled with sharks and other species throughout the casino.

Oh, and did we mention it accepts Bitcoin?

While the Cereus may be small it packs quite the punch with nearly 200 slot machines, seven table games (three of which are reserved for action between noon and 8pm) and a full Sports Book provided by William Hill.

According to the Cereus site their food is "cooked up by a Michelin star chef." We're not sure which Michelin star chef but we'll take their word for it.

If you've got some Bitcoin burning a hole in your (encrypted, no doubt) pocket the Cereus is one of many Vegas casinos that accept Bitcoin.

Jet Nightclub Bitcoins DJ Tempest Bottle Service

Jet Nightclub

Okay, so this one is a little misleading since you can't exactly slip a couple bitcoins into the tip jar at the Jet Nightclub.

But if you want to spend a small fortune on bottle service for DJ Tempt (or whomever is spinning that night) it is possible to use a Bitcoin ATM to transfer the necessary funds to cover your tab.

So, yeah, close enough.

The Bitcoin ATM is located inside the Palace Stations Casino where you'll convert your Bitcoin to cash to pay your enormous bill.

Other than that little Bitcoin blip the Jet Nightclub caters to the EDM crowd with regular appearances by popular disc jockeys.

The club also prides itself on having "Sin City's best sound system," VIP booths and "amazing dancers."

Red Rock Casino

Red Rock Casino Resort Spa

If you're looking for one of the swankier Vegas casinos that accept Bitcoin look no further than the Red Rock.

Located in the Summerlin area to the west of The Strip the Red Rock is a AAA Four Diamond award winner and ranked as one of the top ten resort casinos in America by TripAdvisor.

According to their site the Red Rock offers up "Sin City's finest" dining, gaming and entertainment.

We're not about to argue with that.

With 10 restaurants, 150 wager poker tables and more than 2,000 slot machines the Red Rock certainly has a lot to offer.

Throw in some fine dining, nightlife and, if you're so inclined, a full service spa and you may never have to leave the property.

Then again, the Red Rock is mere minutes from the world famous Seven Hills neighborhood -- home to some of the most expensive homes in America.

Bitcoin Not So Much At These Vegas Casinos ... Yet

Venetian Las Vegas

While the number of Vegas casinos that accept Bitcoin is growing there are still plenty that either haven't joined the party or aren't advertising their participation too loudly.

Here are five of the bigger casinos on/near The Strip who, as far as we can tell, have yet to embrace the Bitcoin lifestyle.

Of course that could change by the time you read this so we'd suggest checking with each casino directly before packing your satoshi for your next trip to Sin City.

The Venetian

The Venetian

To the best of our knowledge the massive Venetian Casino Resort has yet to dive headfirst into the Bitcoin craze.

Given its location across the street from the Vegas headquarters of renowned Bitcoin ATM manufacturer BitAccess it seems likely the Venetian will dip its toes into the crypto waters eventually.

Until then, though, you won't be able to plop down a wad of bitcoins at any of its 120 wager poker tables or 120,000+ square feet of table games and slot machines.

On the plus side there are more than a dozen places to stay, eat and be entertained under "the 'Tian's" roof.

Wynn Las Vegas

Wynn Las Vegas

Another Bitcoin holdout on/near The Strip is the luxurious Wynn.

Once owned by Steve Wynn (now of "resigned in disgrace" notoriety) the Wynn and its adjoining Encore property feature 160,000 square feet of gambling pleasure with 1,802 machines and 80 poker/table games.

Unless Steve-O has left the building without telling us, though, you won't be able to plunk down any bitcoys during your visit.

Maybe next time, guys...

Mandalay Bay

Mandalay Bay

Located at the southern end of The Strip the Mandalay Bay features nearly 4,000 rooms, 1.7 million square feet of meeting place, two high-frequency trading floors and, reportedly, the world's largest fish tank.

Oh, and 110,000 square feet of gambling pleasure spread out among 2,000 slot machines, 130 table games and a racing and sports book.

What does any of that have to with Bitcoin? Absolutely nothing at the moment.

Then again, the folks who run the Shark Reef Aquarium may be convinced otherwise. Hey, we can dream, right?

Additional insight:

MGM Grand Las Vegas

MGM Grand Las Vegas

Speaking of MGM, its namesake casino on The Strip is also yet to jump on the cryptocurrency craze.

That's not to say you should avoid the Grand - with 170,00 square feet of gambling space, 3,000 hotel rooms and dozens of places to eat/be entertained it remains one of the premier destinations in Sin City.

Maybe next quarter's earnings report will include a line item for Bitcoin profit/loss. Maybe not.

In the meantime you can always head over to the Golden Gate (see above) for your free birthday bitcoins.

Treasure Island Resort & Casino

Treasure Island Resort & Casino

Last but not necessarily lacking in any way, shape or form is the Treasure Island (aka TI).

We're a little surprised the pirates and wenches at TI don't have their own crypto currency to go along with their official fiat-backed tender.

PIR-5 might not roll off the tongue like "bit-lay" but it has a certain salty seafaring appeal, no?

Regardless of what they call it the Treasure Island features thousands of slot machines, 90,000 square feet of air conditioning dedicated to gambling and one of the better buffets on The Strip.

Again, you can't buy a wooden leg with Bitcoin (yet?) but you can use the filthy fiat currency your government insists on forcing you to mine to acquire a real walking stick at the on-site Prosthetics By Pirate Pete's.

Rounding out our list of Vegas casinos that accept Bitcoin is the Jazz.

Technically the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino closed April 30, 2020, but we're going with what was for a lot longer known as the Hard Rock (and before that the Holiday Inn) was one of the more unique spots on The Strip.

Aside from the expected rooms, restaurants, pool, casino and music memorabilia exhibits the Jazz offered something truly special to Bitcoin enthusiasts - a Bitcoin ATM.

No need to waste precious vacation time at some sketchy exchange house across the street from O.J.'s old digs. Just stroll on over to the Vic Vaculik BMAT, enter your info and voila!

Bitcoins in hand you're now free to test your luck at the more than 2,000 slot machines, 50 poker and table games or the sizeable sports book.

Of course now that the Jazz has been rebranded as the Sax (yes, really) it is unclear if the BMAT is still operating. We're reaching out to find out and will update once we hear back.

Binion's Gambling Hall No Longer Holds Binoin's Bitcoin

Binion's Gambling Hall

Rounding out our list of Vegas casinos that accept Bitcoin is the legendary Binion's Gambling Hall.

Run for decades by the larger-than-life Benny Binion and his family, this downtown casino claims to be the birthplace of the World Series of Poker.

Even after being sold and resold multiple times Binion's remained one of the few "locals" casinos that accepted bitcoin transactions until early 2021 when it shuttered its doors forever.

A sale to a Chicago-based developer fell through in late 2018 and efforts to find a new owner stumbled along until COVID-19 finished the job in early 2021.

The physical property was demolished in 2022 to make way for a new hotel and condo development.

Bitcoin may be all the rage in the wider world but, for now at least, it's still a niche market within the casino industry.

Sure, there are plenty of Vegas casinos that accept Bitcoin but that list could easily double or triple by this time next year.

Keep an eye on our list of Bitcoin-friendly casinos - both in Vegas and elsewhere - and adjust your bankroll accordingly.
