In February 2020, the Michigan Gaming Control Board gave Dacey’s a 30-day license suspension for failing several inspections since 2016. The regulators also accused the operator of obstructing an investigation and failing to cooperate with subsequent probes.
According to the MGCB, burkhardt had failed to repair or replace broken or missing fire alarm initiating devices, ductwork, sprinkler heads, and a fire damper. She had also covered up the damage with drop ceilings and other materials.
Moreover, burkhardt allegedly tried to mislead investigators by submitting photos of a different area to prove she had complied with the order.
Undeterred, burkhardt appealed the ruling, asking the Michigan Court of Claims to overturn the decision. However, Judge Cynthia Stephens Hathaway rejected her arguments in August 2020, and the casino paid the $34,420 fine in September 2020.
Subsequently, burkhardt hired an electrical engineer to conduct a site assessment and submitted the report to the MGCB. Satisfied with the findings, the regulatory body lifted the sanctions in November 2020.
