Best comic book movies to binge-watch while stuck at home

  • If you’re looking to binge-watch some superhero movies, I recommend starting with Avengers.
  • Another one of my favorites is the Spider-Man series starring Tobey Maguire.
  • The X-Men franchise has an amazing cast with Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart.

We’ve all been stuck at home a bit too much over the past year. And there’s a good chance that you’ve already watched everything worth watching.

Unless you haven’t gotten around to watching the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies in order. If that’s case, here’s your answer for what to watch next.

Whether you are looking for a particular actor or just want to see some great superhero films, there are plenty to choose from.

The hardest part will be trying to decide which ones to watch first.

10. Blade

The vampire genre exploded in the 90s thanks to shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and movies such as Near Dark and From Dusk till Dawn. One of the most popular vampire hunters was Blade, who entered the scene in 1998.

Played by Wesley Snipes, Blade is half-vampire/half-human. He uses his unique abilities to track down and destroy bloodsuckers before they take over the world.

This movie was a massive success and spawned two sequels, an animated series, and a television show.

If you’re wondering where the character is now, it’s unclear at this point if he’ll make an appearance in the MCU. For now, revisit this trilogy if you own .

9. Hulk

The Incredible Hulk has made appearances in The Avengers and his own TV show, but the only standalone film was in 2003.

Starring Eric Bana, this origin story of Bruce Banner didn’t do well in theaters; however, it’s still worth watching. Also starring Jennifer Connelly, Nick Nolte, and Sam Elliott, the acting is top-notch.

One of the big issues with this film is the CGI used on Bana’s face to become the Hulk. It’s very obvious and laughable at times.

It’s no wonder why they scrapped the process for later films.

8. Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3 isn’t the best out of the four movies with Robert Downey Jr.; however, it deserves a top-10 spot.

RDJ’s wit and charm are on full display as Tony Stark builds new and incredible suits after the events of The Avenger. Oh yes, Stark suffers from PTSD after almost destroying Earth’s mightiest heroes.

Not only does Stark have to deal with his inner demons, but also a new villain played by the fantastic actor, Ben Kingsley.

You’ll notice , playing a young version of “Harley” Stanton, who becomes very important in the Avengers.

Speaking of the Avengers …

7. Avengers

What better way to bring a group of superheroes together than to have them battle an alien army that wants to take over Earth? That’s exactly what happens in this epic blockbuster, which brings several characters together for the first time.

Directed by Joss Whedon, who also directed two other Avengers movies and Cabin in the Woods, you know it’s going to be awesome.

The cast features all of your favorite heroes, including Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, and Robert Downey Jr.

You can’t go wrong with these actors, especially when they interact with each other for the first time on the big screen.

6. Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok is easily the best solo film featuring the God of Thunder. In fact, it’s arguably one of the best superhero movies ever made.

Chris Hemsworth brings Thor to life once again, but we get a different side of the character this time around. Most of the credit goes to director Taika Waititi, who adds his signature style to the fourth highest grossing film in Thor’s franchise.

Waititi not only produced and directed Thor: Ragnarok, but he also voiced and brought Korg to life. His unique humor mixed with stunning action scenes makes this movie a must-see.

Oh yeah, don’t forget about the spectacular performances by Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, and Anthony Hopkins.

And let’s not forget about the post-credits scene, which sets up Avengers: Infinity War.

5. X-Men Trilogy

X-Men was released in 2000, which kicked off what’s considered the first trilogy in the series. Starring Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Halle Berry, this movie was a huge success.

X2: X-Men United came out two years later, which many say is better than the original.

Brian Singer, the director of the first two movies, wasn’t available for X-Men: The Last Stand. Therefore, Brett Ratner took over, which is probably the main reason why the third movie in the trilogy is the worst received by critics and fans alike.

That being said, The Last Stand brought in two more powerful mutants, Jean Grey and Dark Phoenix.

If you fast forward to 2019, another trilogy ended with Dark Phoenix. Unfortunately, that movie didn’t fair any better than the previous last stand.

In my mind, the first trilogy cannot be touched.

Hopefully Disney and Fox can figure out how to integrate the X-Men into the MCU, preferably ignoring The Last Stand and X-Men III.

By the way, Deadpool is the only character that doesn’t appear in the MCU or Earth-1010 (the official designation for the original X-Men universe). Feel free to check out our ranking of the movies below if you’re in the mood for some Merc with a Mouth.

4. Spider-Man Trilogy

While I love the recent Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland, I have to give the edge to the original trilogy with Tobey Maguire.

Sure, the final installment wasn’t as good as some moviegoers had hoped, but that shouldn’t take away from the first two chapters.

Like Maguire, both Kirsten Dunst and James Franco delivered outstanding performances as Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osborn, respectively.

But the real star of the show was Willem Dafoe in his role as Green Goblin.

A musical theme plays every time Dafoe appeared on screen. Once you hear those notes, you immediately know that the Green Goblin isn’t far behind.

Dafoe deserves all the accolades for bringing this iconic villain to life.

We also can’t forget about Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus and Thomas Haden Church as Sandman. Both actors did an excellent job in their respective roles.

It’s unfortunate that Sam Raimi didn’t’t receive clearance to use certain characters, such as Venom and Carnage, due to sharing the rights with Toy Biz.

Maybe Spidey’s latest appearance in Far From Home will inspire a new trilogy with Maguire and Dunst reprising their roles. A guy can dream, right?

3. Deadpool Franchise

The only thing better than one Deadpool movie is three Deadpool movies, right? Okay, we’ve only seen two movies with the Merc with a Mouth, but who cares, they’re both amazing.

Breaking box office records, Deadpool became the highest grossing R-rated film in history. That record has since been broken by its own sequel.

Deadpool 2 took things to another level by introducing Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz).

Of course, Ryan Reynolds steals the show once again as Wade Wilson/Deadpool. What other actor could play this role besides Reynolds?

If you haven’t already done so, stay for the post-credit scenes because they set up the X-Force and the possibility of a third movie.

Unfortunately, those projects were put on hold after Disney purchased Fox and the future of the X-Men and Fantastic Four was uncertain. We finally know that the mutants are joining the MCU, which means Deadpool will eventually join his friends in Westeros.

2. The Dark Knight Trilogy

Christopher Nolan breathed new life into the Caped Crusader with Christian Bale under the bat suit. But it was The Dark Knight that stole the show, thanks to the late Heath Ledger’s incredible performance as the Joker.

Ledger won a Posthumous Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 81st Academy Awards.

Even though I’m a bigger fan of Jack Nicholson’s Joker in the 1989 Batman film, there’s no denying that Ledger transformed into the perfect villain.

Another great aspect about Nolan’s Batman movies is that they feature practical effects rather than relying on computer generated imagery (CGI).

Although The Dark Knight may sit at the top spot for many people, The Dark Knight Rises rounds out the top two on my list.

From beginning to end, this movie keeps you on the edge of your seat. Tom Hardy does a decent job as Bane, while Anne Hathaway steals the show as Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine round out an all-star cast in this trilogy.

1. Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

How could I not rank the entire MCU at the top spot? This interconnected web of movies started with Iron Man in 2008 and is still going strong with Black Widow scheduled to come out in 2021.

Yes, there have been a few duds along the way, such as The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World. However, those flaws are minor when comparing the MCU to other cinematic universes.

What makes the MCU so successful is the writing staff led by Kevin Feige. They carefully layout Easter eggs throughout each movie, setting up future plot points in other installments.

Reasons Why Progressive Jackpots Are Better Than Lotto Tickets

For example, Loki disappearing in front of SHIELD agents at the end of The Avengers leads to the hit TV series, Agents of SHIELD, and ultimately Thomas Hiddleston’s Loki series on Disney+.

Most of these movies are lighthearted and enjoyable for viewers of all ages. That said, the MCU isn’t afraid to kill major characters, which makes the stories even more intriguing.

Just look at the end of Infinity War and Endgame. Who would have thought that characters like Black Panther, Gamora, and half of all life in the universe would perish? Of course, most of them were brought back in the following film; however, it goes to show that anyone can die at any moment, creating a sense of urgency during pivotal moments.
