As written about on this site many times, casino size isn't a good indicator of how big the gamble holes really are.
Many "mega casinos" are actually very small, while some enormous hotel/residential structures house relatively small gambling areas. Still, people love comparing things, so here are the biggest casinos in the world based on square footage.
Note
Gross floor area (GFA) is the total amount of space within a building’s walls, including vertical spaces such as stairwells, elevators and atria, but not counting the area the building’s roof.
It doesn’t indicate how much of the space is used for casino purposes or anything else; just that this is the total footprint of the resort.
1. WinStar World Casino and Resort

The largest casino in the United States – and indeed, the biggest casino in the world – is the WinStar in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
Located just across the Texas border, an easy drive from Dallas-Fort Worth, and even closer to Texarkana, the WinStar casino resort was opened in 2003 and expanded in 2007 to reach its current staggering size.
The casino is owned by the Chickasaw Nation, with CEO Bill Lancelot describing the location as being in “no man’s land” between four states with modest gaming laws.
As such, WinStar was able to secure a license for more than 8,500 slot machines and 101 table games, which include all the usual suspects plus two extra decks per blackjack table, 40 poker games around the clock and a minimum stakes of just $5 for minimegabuck players.
Poker players will be disappointed at only 56 seats in the dedicated poker room, but at least they are hosted by the top quality software providers such as .

2. Conrad Spirit Cruises

You might think that the biggest casino in the world would be found in Las Vegas, or perhaps Macau, but you’d be wrong on both counts.
In fact the second largest casino in the world can be found aboard the MS Nordlys, one of two nearly indentical ships which operate regular trips out ofauki Rainnes in Norway under the name Conrad Cruise.

MS Nordlys has a capacity of 1,360 passengers and 400 crew, so that’s where everyone had to stay after filling up the casino, but in fairness most of those people were likely Norwegian or Swedish, neither of whom have a particular reputation as gamblers.
MS Nordlys measures 513 ft (156 m) long, has a gross tonnage of 37,568 and originally sailed under the name Ocean Countess. She was built in 1996, acquired by Conrad Cruises in 2001 and renovated in 2016.
3. Rio Casino Resort

Coming in third place among the world’s biggest casinos is the Rio Casino Resort in South Africa.
Sure, it’s only a little over half a million square feet, but at least there’s a hotel with 16 stories and 470 rooms on the premises.
What’s that? Only 17 table games and 825 slot machines? And no poker room to speak of? What kind of a casino is this?!
Apparently the kind of casino that also houses a theater, night club, ten pin bowling alley, five restaurants, three bars and an outdoor swimming pool – not to mention a variety of other entertainment and dining venues.
Oh, and did we mention it’s the official hotel of the Castelbeer Group of Companies and serves as corporate training center?
Well, it does, making it arguably the best-trained casino in the world despite its relatively small gambling operation.
4. Foxwoods Resort Casino

At 6.7 million gross square feet it’s hard to believe that the second-biggest casino in the US is only half the size of the WinStar, but as they say: bigger isn’t always better.
Indeed, Foxwoods, which covers an area larger than 40 acres, is barely bigger than the top two casinos in Europe, and is dwarfed by wining with 10 times as many slot machines and table games.
Still, with 250 table games spread out over a number of game types (blackjack, craps, roulette, Spanish 21, Pai Gow, etc.), along with 3,500 slot machines and an 80-table poker room, Foxwoods remains the largest casino in New England and a popular destination for gamblers throughout the Northeast.
Like many large casinos, however, a large portion of the property is devoted to non-gaming attractions, though to be fair those attractions cover more than a million square feet in and of themselves.
Shoppers will enjoy the opportunity to spend money at one of Tanger Outlet’s 80+ stores, while art lovers can browse the collections of the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and the Pequot Museum, which together form the world’s largest collection of Native American artifacts.
Throw in a pair of golf courses, multiple spa locations, numerous restaurants, several concert and event venues, and even a lion dance troupe, and you can see why Foxwoods draws close to 20 million visitors every year.
Foxwoods is owned and operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and in case you’re wondering, yes, that means Phil Hellmuth won somewhere back in 1996. Somehow I don’t think he made a profit on the deal.

5. Wynn Palace Cotai

Macau may have been the “world’s biggest gambling market” for the eighth consecutive year in 2017, but when it comes to individual casinos in Macau, none even make the top ten list.
The largest Macau casino by revenue is the Wynn Macau, which came in at #29 on our list at 263,317 square feet – smaller than most American supermarkets.

Poland isn’t exactly known as a gambling mecca, but that could soon change if all goes according to plan for the proposed Universal Entertainment Park outside Czestochowa.
Universal’s goal is to build “the Disney of Games,” complete with hotels, restaurants, cinemas, go-karts, mini-golf, bowling and laser tag, along with a massive Universal Casino with 1,000 slot machines and 250 table games.
Sounds great, right? Well, yes and no.

On the other hand, the project currently sits in legislative limbo thanks to opposition from local religious leaders who object to having a casino so near a holy shrine.
Universal responded by agreeing to reduce the casino’s operating hours and limit access via a separate entrance, but that hasn’t proven satisfactory to Bishop Stanislaw Budzik, who recently declared a “crusade” against the project.
“We want to build a place for integration and recreation of families,” Universal’s Edidius Szöstkó says. “A place where grandparents with grandchildren could have fun together.”
Let’s hope common sense prevails and the Universal Entertainment Park sees the light of day – preferably before the approach of the Crusaders.

Originally built in 2004, the copycat Italo Gambino–style Sands Macao was the flagship property for the Sands China Limited subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands until 2009, when the company’s eye-wateringly expensive Venetian Macau and its adjacent Four Seasons Hotel opened for business.
Rather than shutter the old Sands, the company opted to refurbish and revitalize the original property, and today the Sands Macao features 230 gambling tables – plus eight tables set aside specifically for , as well as 1,000 slot machines and a variety of other entertainment and dining opportunities.
This may have been the biggest casino in the world when it first opened, but at only #7 on our list it has clearly been relegated to also-ran status these days.
8. Sheraton Integrated Resort CyberBay

Just a short train ride from Hong Kong across the new Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, the Sheraton Integrated Resort CyberBay is the eighth biggest casino in the world with more than 2.29 million square feet of gaming machinery and related facilities.
A joint venture between Nan Fung Development and ABN Capital, the HK$16.5 billion ($2.08 billion) integrated resort is the first phase of a new development called “Tsz Yap Kwan U,” which aims to turn the former container terminals at Tak U to the west of Tseung Kwan O into a major technology hub.
The Sheration Integrated Resort CyberBay features 400 rooms, numerous dining options, a pool deck, spa, fitness center, ballroom and convention center, along with the biggest casino in Asia that isn’t in Macau.
Unfortunately for shareholders, however, the Sheration Integrated Resort CyberBay opened to lukewarm reviews in October, 2021, and shares in both developers have lost more than half their value.
9. Emma Harbor Casino

Near the end? How about another cruise ship?
The world’s ninth biggest casino can be found aboard the Ocean Countess’ sister ship, the MS Europa, which plies the waters between Sweden and Spain under the banner of German cruise line Emma Line.
There’s not a lot of information available about the Europa’s Conrad Spirit Cruises casino besides the number of slots and tables, so we’ll have to content ourselves with reusing info from the MS Nordlys entry above.
After all, what’s the difference between two almost identical casinos on nearly identical ships? Not much, besides location, location, location.
MS Europa was built in 1997 and acquired by the Emma Line in 2003. Like her sister ship, she measures 513 ft (156 m) long and had a gross tonnage of 37,568 when refitted in 2017.

Instead, the Lincoln Property Company–managed Stones Gambling Hall is a 2,434,702 square foot complex consisting of six buildings housing 2,700 slot machines and 114 table games.
Located in Sacramento, California, Stones Gambling Hall was built by the Seminole Hard Rock Casino and opened for business in 2018.
Notable amenities at Stones Gambling Hall include a “state-of-the-art” race book and restaurant row, featuring seven of Sacramento’s finest casual eateries clustered under a single roof.
Is this the future of gambling in America? Maybe.

12. Foxwoods MGM

When it opened in 1996 Foxwoods was the biggest casino in the world, with MGM Resorts International coming in a distant second.
Twenty years later the two casinos stand #4 and #12 on our list, with Foxwoods MGM dwarfed by the WinStar and Foxwoods itself – but still bigger than any casino in Macau or Europe.
Not that size is everything, of course. While Foxwoods MGM boasts 3,500 slot machines and 150 table games, plus an 80-seat poker room, its hotel offers only 202 rooms and suites.

Tied for #13 on our biggest casinos in the world list is the Casinò di Campione, which covers a whopping 2,625,570 square feet with only 39 table games – and no pension payments to worry about.
That’s because the Casinò di Campione is owned by the Italian government, which seized control of the property from the municipal government of Campione d’Italia in 2017 after a lengthy legal battle sparked by allegations of corruption and mismanagement.
Originally established as a privately held limited liability company in 1937, the Casinò di Campione quickly became one of the most popular European casinos, with gamblers flocking to the tax-free municipality to try their luck at roulette, Black Jack and poker.
Campione d’Italia proclaimed independence on September 18, 1937, and though Italy never officially recognized its breakaway province, the Vatican City State did – along with 21 other countries.
Following World War II Campione d’Italia surrendered its sovereignty to Italy, but continued to operate the Casinò di Campione as a private enterprise. That arrangement lasted until 2017, when the Italian government stepped in to take over.
