Caesars Casinos — A Short History Lesson
Harrah’s Reno was the first Harrah’s property and was opened as “The Saona” in 1937.
If we’re being honest here, Harrah’s Reno, Nevada, was the first Harrah’s property and was opened as “The Saona” in 1937. William F. Harrah Sr. bought the venue in 1938 before renaming it Harrah’s Club.
Six years later, Harrah opened a second business in Reno—the Opera House Casino. This would serve as a learning curve for the young entrepreneur, going bankrupt in 1944. Harrah would bounce back from these Caesars casinos debts and buy out his competition during the 50s and 60s.
This would lead to Harrah’s becoming the biggest name in Reno betting. Expansion into Las Vegas in 1973 with Harrah’s Hotel and Casino would set the ball rolling for more venues in Reno, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, and Louisiana during the 70s and 80s.
A string of acquisitions during the 90s and noughties would see Harrah’s acquire the Holiday Inn Resorts & Casinos in Laughlin and Stateline, as well as Bally’s, King Spa Casino, and the Barbary Coast in Vegas.
This would make Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc., the world’s largest gaming company. A company that would be purchased by Caesars Palace owner Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. In 2005. Creating one colossal Caesars Entertainment group.
Confused? Don’t worry about it.
Things got even more confusing when Caesars Entertainment sold several of its Harrah’s and Horseshoe properties to Vici Properties in 2017. Before merging with Eldorado Resorts in 2020.
Got that?
It does make things complex for investors and accountants, I guess. But what does any of this mean for you and me? Not much, really. Other than a lot of famous names to choose from when looking for somewhere nice to stay and gamble in the States.
Whether you are asking, “Are there Caesars Casinos in New York?” or “How many Caesars casinos are there in Missouri?” this guide will answer all of life’s important questions.
Current List of All Caesars Casinos in US
There are 48 Caesars casinos located across 13 states in America. As well as two international venues based in the Dominican Republic and Canada.
You’ll notice some familiar names in there, while others may mean nothing to you at present. These include the likes of Bally’s, Harrah’s, Horseshoe, and Hooters. The sale of some of these brands’ properties to Vici Properties means they are no longer technically “Caesars” casinos. Although they will still operate under the same name for the foreseeable future. Confused? Yeah, me too.
Any who, here is a full list of all 48 Caesars properties and a couple of bits of essential information for each.
