- �����The list of markets that Barstool covers is pretty decent. You get all the major bases covered such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL. They also cover soccer, Aussie Rules, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Darts, Motorsports, and plenty more.
However, I do think that there are some gaps in their market list that could be filled rather easily. The first of these is surfing. If Barstool wants to be the “people’s betting site” wouldn’t it make sense to have a market for something that lots of people like to do in America?
I did a quick search online for the amount of people surfing in the US and it’s around 38 million. That’s almost 12% of the country. Granted, not all of them are going to be bettors, but I’d wager a guess and say that plenty of them would love to have the chance to bet on pro surfing.
Right now, the only event you can bet on is the Vans World Cup of Surfing Future at Sunset Beach. This is not even close to being a pro event and is classed as a “qualifying series”.
Another sport that would work well at Barstool would be Cycling. Now, I know what you’re thinking here, cycling is usually linked to doping scandals and can put a bad taste in people’s mouths. I get that, but hear me out.
If Barstool was to cover cycling, I’d suggest that they focus purely on road racing. Again, this is an sport that is massively popular, yet there are very few markets available to punters.
There’s also very little corruption in cycling races. You can argue that about pretty much every other sport, so they won’t be alone in this regard. Why not give the people what they want, right?
One last sport I want to quickly touch on is Handball. I know a lot of Europeans that would use Barstool if they covered this sport as it’s huge where they’re from. Once again, there’s very little corruption in handball matches and there’s a lot of strategy that goes into each game, which makes betting on it quite fun.

If Barstoll wanted to become the best betting app in the US, then I feel like they need to start offering live streaming. There are so many benefits to having live streams of events within the app that it’s crazy not to do it.
Imagine being able to watch a game you’re betting on inside the same app? Not only would this save you having multiple tabs open on your phone or computer, but it would also make the experience much more enjoyable.
For example, if you’re betting on a game of basketball, you can keep an eye on the score, see if any of your bets have cashed yet, and watch the whole thing unfold without missing a second of the action.
It would also mean that you don’t need to frantically search for websites that stream sports, as everything will be under one roof. Again, less stress and less time spent hunting down shady sites on the internet.

Now, the Barstool Sportsbook app isn't terrible. In fact, it’s leaps and bounds better than some of the older betting sites I’ve used in the past. The issue I have with it is that it feels slow at times.

At this point, I’ll close the app and try and access it via my browser. Nearly every time, it loads up fast and I can start placing bets immediately.

What about total kills? Total assists? First blood? Map handicap? There were none of these markets on Barstool during last year’s The International. Granted, this is one of the bigger events of the year, but even smaller ones merit more than two betting markets in my opinion.

Don’t get me wrong, they do have some novel bets available for certain tournaments, but nowhere near the amount you’d find at other popular betting apps.
Let’s take the US Open as an example. If we compare Barstool to BetOnline, the difference is night and day. Sure, Barstool has a “chalk up the set” market for Men’s Singles matches, but that’s about it.
BetOnline has 33 unique prop bets for the Men’s and Women’s singles matches. Some of these include Correct Score after 3 Sets, Highest Set to be 7-5, Any Tie-Break to be in the First Set, and more.
Having a good selection of novel bets gives players more ways to win. Even if they don’t fancy anyone to win the entire tournament outright, they might still think they can call the highest set in a particular match.
Another thing to note is that BetOnline released their alternate line markets well before the start of the tournament. As of writing this, the US Open is yet to begin, but I was able to find alternative tennis prop bets at BetOnline weeks prior.
Barstool do have more unique betting markets for golf, mind you. But when it comes to tennis, I think they could learn a thing or two from some of their competitors.
Barstool Should Hire More Personalities

I think it’s a smart move for a betting app to hire personalities to front their brand. Dave Portnoy is a perfect example of this, he started Barstool Sports as a blog back in 2003, and look at how far it’s come since then.

I will say the rewards system seems decent enough. You can level up by playing more on the site and earning points. These points can be used to purchase merchandise, statement credits, and food delivery/gift cards.
