Programme for Resettlement in 180 Days
Hon. Governor of the Northern province Major General G.A Chandrasri has stated that the activities connected with the “ Programme for Resettlement in 180 Days “ are being carried out in all the divisions of the Jaffna district.
The executive officers who are functioning in Jaffna and Trincomalee who were summoned for the two conferences were addressed on the importance of implementing the proposals for resettlement in 180 days under the “Vadakkil Vasantham” programme in conformity with the Mahinda Rajapakse Chinthanaya, in the Northern Province, according to schedule.
The Hon. Governor further stated that the advice and unstinted co-operation of Hon. Basil Rajapakse, M.P. and senior adviser to H.E the President, are always available to the officers who are involved in the implementation of the “Accelerated Resettlement in 180 Days” programme. He further stated that Hon. Douglas Devananda and the security officers concerned who had met the officers responsible for the above programme had assured them that solutions would be found quickly for the problems that the said officers may encounter in the course of implementing the said programme. The Hon. Minister had asked the officers to take active interest in their work.
Upto now, a total of 1054 families of Jaffna and Vavuniya have been resettled in Jaffna district. in the conference held on the 12th instant, Hon. Governor had quoted that the Government Agent of Jaffna district had announced that the displaced families staying in Jaffna and the Villages of Vavuniya will have to be resettled in Jaffna district very soon. It was also mentioned that steps have been taken in this connection already.
The ban which was earlier imposed on fishing in Jaffna has been revoked. The fishermen had submitted a memorandum about the difficulties that they are facing to Hon. Douglas Devananda , The Minister. The Hon. Minister had told them that he would take up the issues with the security commanders concerned with a view to find solutions.
Steps are being taken under the “Vadakkil Vasantham” programme afford them the desired relief and also to provide them with the basic infrastructure.
The livelihood of the Jaffna people is now fairly stabilized with a view to provide a satisfactory bus transport service, 5 ordinary buses and 5 luxury buses have been provided. Permission has been granted for the transport of essential goods by Lorries to Jaffna. Hon. Governor further stated that steps are being taken by the Government to bring down the Cost of consumables.
The representatives of the Road Development Authority, Local Government, SLTB, Land Development, Housing, CEB, Agriculture, Health , Education, Co-operative, Industries, etc. attended the conference and discussions held at the Auditorium of the Jaffna Public Library.
